Volunteering with OHEN is a great way to contribute to the Oregon Homeschool Community, and to stay connected with other homeschoolers. We have a number of ongoing opportunities.

Helpline Volunteer. One week per month or less, monitor our email inbox. Answer question from new, current, and prospective homeschoolers. Forward notices from third parties to a selection of email lists. About 5 hours per month (but very low activity).

Homeschooling in Oregon Coordinator. Contact Oregon libraries or answer inquiries from libraries to schedule HinO presentations; coordinate panelists to host presentations. About 2-3 hours a month or less.

Panel Speakers. Participate in Homeschooling in Oregon presentations at libraries, community centers, etc. Panel speakers generally present in groups of two or more, and answer questions for new, current, and prospective homeschoolers.

Calendar Manager. Place events on OHEN’s public Events Calendar in response to notifications from homeschoolers. 1-2 hours per month.

Ad Manager. Keep track of paid advertisers. Accept new ads  and send contracts, and send new invoices once yearly. About 1 hour per month. (Optional: manage ad page on website.)

Volunteer Coordinator. Organize and monitor a database of volunteers – name, contact information, type of volunteer, availability. Assist in recruitment through placement of notices in social media. About 1-2 hours a month.

Event Coordinator(s). Three events per year: Costume Carnival in October, Prom in April/May, Tween Activity in late winter. Collect registrations, organize list of attendees, coordinate decorator, DJ, photographer, venue. Attend dance, coordinate volunteers for setup and cleanup, work with chaperones. This is an important job and will take about 15 hours per dance, within about a month’s time for each dance.

Board Member. Attend board meetings four times a year (dinner included!). Discuss OHEN projects such as dances and resource fair, vote on procedural issues, discuss current legislative and other issues that impact homeschoolers, etc. Board positions include President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, General Member.

Blogger / Social Media Coordinator. Provide content weekly for our website blog. Can be on any homeschooling-related topic; one or two paragraphs, or longer. Can include guest bloggers. Look at social media forums, other homeschool blogs, etc., to find content. Post links to blog on Twitter and Facebook. About 1-2 hours per month.

Legislative Tracker. Keep track of state or federal legislation that might affect Oregon Homeschoolers and submit updates to the OHEN Webmaster. About 1-2 hours per month.

Membership Manager. Keep database of memberships. Coordinate membership benefits with board. Communicate membership benefits to members. Recruit membership from homeschooling groups. Anywhere from 1 to 10 hours per month depending on your degree of creativity.
